May Day Awards 2024: 42 organisations to receive awards for their dedication towards workers and tripartism

NTUC will honour 42 organisations this year at its annual May Day Awards ceremony on 10 May 2024 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

According to NTUC, these organisations have “demonstrated remarkable dedication” to improving workers’ wages, welfare, and work prospects while advocating the importance of tripartism. Award recipients range from government agencies to private sector companies.

“They ensure job security for their employees through training and skill upgrading and support employees to achieve wage improvements to better manage the cost of living worries, among other efforts,” said NTUC.

The 42 organisations will receive awards under the Plaque of Commendation (Star), the Plaque of Commendation (Gold), the Plaque of Commendation, and the Partner of Labour Movement categories.

The individual awardees for 2024 will be announced soon.

Dedicated industry leaders

In recognition of their unwavering commitment to labour welfare, Makino Asia and SP Group will receive the Plaque of Commendation (Star) Award. Meanwhile, Mediacorp and Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania will receive the Plaque of Commendation (Gold) Award.

SP Group is being recognised with the Plaque of Commendation (Star) for taking proactive measures such as revising starting pay to align with Progressive Wage Model (PWM) guidelines and implementing schemes to boost wage increments for lower-wage workers.

The company collaborated with the Union of Power and Gas Employees (UPAGE) to address the concerns of its mature workforce. SP Group is also known for its supportive working environment and introduction of skills development initiatives to enhance workforce employability, which reflects its steadfast dedication to worker welfare.

Welfare advocates

NTUC will also honour several organisations that have taken progressive steps to improve the work prospects of PMEs and lower-wage workers through initiatives like the Company Training Committee (CTC).

For example, Bangkok Bank Public Company, a Plaque of Commendation (POC) recipient, digitalised its HR systems through a CTC formed with the Banking and Financial Services Union (BFSU). This resulted in implementing an automated record-keeping system that eliminates high-volume manual tasks and reduces human error.

Bulls-Eye Security Services, another POC awardee, embraced modern security technology through the CTC, which helped to elevate its workers’ wages above the stipulated Progressive Wage Model levels.

Other notable mentions include Go-Ahead Singapore and Mount Faber Leisure Group.

Both collaborated with their respective unions to enhance their operations and upskill their workforce.
